Developmental Course

The USATF Coaching Education Developmental program is intended for beginning coaches or volunteers at any level. Two of the primary objectives are to present guidelines of coaching responsibilities and to offer an overview of training as it applies to various age levels. The Developmental program covers basic fundamentals, safety/risk management, and overall concepts of the sport of track & field. The Developmental course is an ideal program for in-service training, parents, or coach's meetings.

How to Apply

  1. Locate a school or contact local USATF Association
  2. Complete the Registration Form (PDF)
  3. Send the completed form and payment to the person indicated in the school listing

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Attend a Developmental Coaching Education school

Benefits

  • Recognition as a USATF Developmental coach
  • Curriculum book covering fundamentals and risk management
  • Skills and knowledge to coach athletes at the junior age division level
  • Preparation (but not a requirement) to attend a Level 1 school

About Developmental Coach

Developmental schools are four-hour courses that focus on track & field and related sport science. The course is primarily classroom training. Attendance at all sessions is required.

The cost for a Developmental school is $15.

Upon fulfilling the requirements (see above), participants will be issued a Developmental Coach Certificate of Completion.
